Capacity Building

Caribbean Asylum and Refugee Law Initiative is an "initiative" aimed at building capacity within the Caribbean region on the under developed asylum and refugee law.

We offer comprehensive training and professional development sessions to lawyers, humanitarians, educational institutes, private sector organisations, non-profit organisations, and public bodies.

Within the Caribbean, there are lawyers who know refugee law. However, there is a lack of refugee-law practitioners. Our goal is to build capacity, which in turn contributes to the evolutionary nature of Caribbean jurisprudence.

Professional Training

Providing real-world, practical training to lawyers and other professionals on the legal frameworks and international conventions relevant to asylum seekers and refugees.

The aim is to build capacity on the procedural and substantive aspects of Refugee Status Determination (RSD), equipping participants with the knowledge and tools needed to offer accurate, informed, and effective legal advice and representation in matters of international protection.

Academic Training

Offers academically grounded training to students interested in refugee and asylum law, with a focus on both theoretical foundations and real-world application.

Through interactive sessions, legal analysis, and case-based learning, students gain a deep understanding of international conventions, regional instruments, and domestic legal systems governing the protection of refugees and asylum seekers.

The aim is to prepares the next generation of advocates to engage meaningfully with issues of displacement, human rights, and international protection.

Generalised Training

Providing generalised training on asylum and refugee law to a broad range of audiences, including members of the public, non-profit organisations, and government stakeholders.

Whether aimed at frontline workers, policymakers, or community members, this training fosters informed engagement, encourages protection-sensitive responses, and strengthens overall capacity to support individuals in need of international protection.
